Minnesota Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Association (MMFPA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1991. It is a self-funding organization operated by volunteers. MMFPA promotes and provides education in order to improve and expand the quality and quantity of foreclosure prevention programs and services available to Minnesota residents. In addition, the Association develops and delivers extensive training programs, and provides support to those working in the field of mortgage foreclosure prevention.
MMFPA has been recognized on both the state and national levels for its quality training programs. The organization’s strength is derived from its diversity of membership, including foreclosure prevention counselors, financial and debt management counselors, attorneys, real estate professionals, consultants, state and federal organizations, and other professionals committed to bringing quality foreclosure prevention services to Minnesota residents.
MMFPA Board Members
Ian Ball - MMFPA President, 2014 term. An attorney in private practice specializing in bankruptcy law and Chapter 13 mortgage default remedies, Ian has been a member of MMFPA Since its inception. He's been a speaker at many training conferences for housing couneslors on wuch topics as foreclosure, bankruptcy remedies, foreclosure relief scams, Regulation O for loan modification consultants, and alternative mortgage workout remedies.
Karen Basara - MMFPA Treasurer, 2014 term. Certified Foreclosure Prevention Specialist and PrePurchase Housing Counselor with Anoka County Community Action Program (ACCAP) since 2007, Karen has been a member of the MMFPA board since 2008. She has been a licensed real estate professional since 1997.
Terri Heinen - Terri is a Financial and Housing Counselor with Village Family Service Center in St. Cloud since 2011 and an MMFPA board member since 2012. She provides financial counseling, debt management planning, foreclosure prevention, credit report review, pre-marital counseling, and bankruptcy counseling. Terri earned a finance degree from SCSC, has worked in banking, a family-owned business, and the United Way before joining the Village.
Mike Mohs - An MMFPA board member since its inception, Mike is a licensed Realtor with Edina Realty specializing in short sales, refinancing, and home purchase financing.
Dave Mootz - Dave has been an MMFPA board member since 2006 and is a Certified Foreclosure prevention Specialist and PrePurchase Housing Counselor with ACCAP since 2006 as well. Prior to joining ACCAP, Dave was a branch manager for a consumer loan office for 28 years, analyzing consumer loan applications, credit reviews, and loan approvals.
Gayle Peterson - An MMFPA board member since 2013, Gayle is a foreclosure counselor with Northwest Community Action (NCA) since 1999 in Badger, MN. In addition to foreclosure counseling, Gayle is a Licensed Social Worker and manages the NCA Family Service programs for Roseau, Ki8ttson, Lake of the Woods, and East Marshall counties.
Dana Slimmer - Dana has been an MMFPA board member since 2011 and a housing counselor with Community Action Partnership of Suburban Hennepin (CAPSH) since 2009. She also provides Reverse Mortgage (HECM) counseling, is a financial literacy teacher and provides homebuyer and refinance housing counseling. Previously she worked for a title company and was a loan officer for a major international corporation after receiving a BA from Concordia College in International Studies.
Roberta Stier - An MMFPA board member since 2013, Roberts is a Family Self-Sufficiencty Counselor at West Central Minnesota Communities Action (WCMCA) in Elbow Lake. She also provides foreclosure prevention counseling, prepurchase and financial literacy counseling. Roberta has BA debrees in Liberal Arts & Human Services and in Business, and Associate degrees in Information Processing and Word Processing from Alexandria Technical College. Her job focuses on helping people in financial need find hope and direction.
Haley Wotzka - Haley has been an MMFPA board member since 2013 and is a Housing Counselor with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity since 2010, providing foreclosure prevention, refinance and financial counseling. A graduate of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, Haley previously worked for an affordable housing advocacy organization in Seattle.
Susan Vue - An MMFPA board member since 2012, Susan is a licensed Minnesota Real Estate Sales Person since 2004 and the former President for Minnesota’s Women’s Council of REALTORS© Twin Cities Chapter. She is also an active member of the Minnesota Association of REALTORS© and the National Association of REALTORS©. She comes to the industry with a technical background as a former application developer and teaches first-time home buyer classes, financial literacy and foreclosure prevention in the community.
Judy Plank - Judy completed the MMFPA foreclosure counseling training in 1997 and has been a member for 14 years. She works as a home buyer educator, foreclosure, prepurchase, refinance and budget counselor at Rochester Olmsted Community Housing Partnership (ROCHP). Provides education and counseling to households in southeastern Minnesota.
